PORT ADELAIDE has named two young guns to return from injury and a father-son debutant for its SANFL Showdown with Adelaide on Thursday afternoon.

Forward Ollie Lord has been included for his first game since suffering bone bruising and an impaction fracture to his leg during pre-season while Josh Sinn is back for his first game since the Round 2 trip to Waikerie after experiencing a hip problem.

Father-son prospect Ky Burgoyne will also play his first game of league football, after an agreement between the club, the SANFL and his junior club West Adelaide.

The son of Port Adelaide’s 2004 premiership player Shaun Burgoyne, Ky is part of the club’s Next Generation Academy and is eligible to be drafted by both Port Adelaide and Hawthorn, where his father won a further three AFL premierships before retiring after 407 games.

A Henley High School student, the 17-year-old is able to feature for the Magpies for four games under a ruling which permits father-son and Next Generation Academy players to feature for Port Adelaide in the SANFL.

The lightly built defender is averaging 19 disposals and five tackles per game for West Adelaide in the SANFL under 18 competition but spent part of the school holidays training with Port Adelaide’s AFL side.

Ky Burgoyne has a long family connection to Port Adelaide. He is a cousin of current Port Adelaide player Jase Burgoyne, a nephew of 2004 premiership player Peter Burgoyne and former AFLW captain Erin Phillips, and both of his grandfathers – Peter Burgoyne senior and Greg Phillips – also played for the club.

Also included to face Adelaide on Thursday is another father-son, Preston Cockatoo-Collins, who made his league debut for the club against Woodville-West Torrens in Round 3.

Going out of the team that lost to Norwood last Saturday night are Francis Evans and Dante Visentini who are AFL emergencies, the injured Logan Evans and Reed Stevens, and Beau Baldwin, who was omitted.

The Magpies are looking for their first win of the season. First bounce at Adelaide Oval is at 3:20pm.
